How healing after abortion support groups foster the healing process

The impact of abortion is experienced on various emotional levels. Most men and women who have been impacted by abortion silence the emotional pain by pushing their experience away, hoping it will disappear. We often hear statements similar to Jennifer’s, “I was so embarrassed about my abortion and didn’t think a counselor could change things or help me feel better”. This type of silent suffering leaves men and women impacted by abortion with mounds of hurt and untreated affliction- for far too many years.

Healing After Abortion allows men and women impacted by abortion the opportunity to share their grief and loss with others who have experienced similar pain. People experience healing from sharing their stories with others who will not judge them. Theresa Burke writes in her book, Forbidden Grief, “It is only when we have the support of others who will not judge or condemn us that we feel safe from social rejection. This support makes it easier for us to confront and explore the deepest part of our souls.

Support After Abortion exists to influence the way the world provides restoration to men and women impacted by abortion. We understand that if we are truly going to help men and women impacted by abortion, we (and others) need to provide after abortion healing programs that fit the needs and schedule of our participants. One of the ways we are doing this is through Virtual Support Groups. We are excited to be adding Unraveled Roots to our healing options.

Through an amazing partnership with Embrace Grace, abortion healing group leaders are able to request a set of 10 FREE Overcomer Gifts for their participants which include a hammered rose gold bracelet engraved with “overcomer” + journal with writing prompts and encouragement to help write out her story! Embrace Grace will ship to the leader for free to distribute to participants. What a fun gift that encourages her to tell her story of freedom! If you lead a group, request your set of 10!

Embrace Grace is known for equipping churches to host weekly support groups for both single + pregnant women and single moms. Pregnant moms are blessed with a church-wide Baby Shower if parenting or Celebration of Life Shower if a brave choice of adoption is made. Single moms attending Embrace Life are encouraged and empowered to not just survive in the season of single motherhood but to thrive. Both are outreach opportunities for the church to not just be pro-life, but be pro-love and walk with her in a time of crisis while using the curriculum to speak over her value and worth. If your church is looking for an opportunity to walk with women in your community impacted by an unplanned pregnancy, you can request info HERE.

Support After Abortion is excited to announce the launch of the Healing Network on Facebook Live. Beginning May 5th and every following Tuesday at 4 pm EDT, Support After Abortion will host a special guest to discuss the importance of after abortion healing.
